An admin of LabourStart on Facebook sent a message out today that “This weekend will see the public launch of UnionBook – the social networking website for trade unionists, sponsored by LabourStart.”
Having recently discovered the value of Facebook – as the tagline says: to connect and share with the people in your life – as opposed to just being crankily involved in its existence, I can see the usefulness of online social networking. [It's political organizing use should also be noted.]
So I say hooray for a forum that allows labor unionists to connect with others of their ilk.
But will Facebook (and other networking sites) lose anything by the potential sequestration (albeit voluntary) of a segment of its members?
And, somewhat unrelatedly, what about this?
Atomization or good idea?
